I scraped at it.<br \/>\nArtisan, whole-leaf paint chips<br \/>\ndropped off<br \/>\nin spidery clumps.<br \/>\nAnd now I can see, it is an artisan pencil.<br \/>\nMade by a man in the mountains of Peru.<br \/>\nSeparated out from the base of a Peruvian Pencil Tree.<br \/>\nPeru.<br \/>\nIt is a savage land.<br \/>\nAnd there&#8217;s my friend, the legendary artisan<br \/>\nwith his Peruvian pencil-carving knife, its handle<br \/>\nsnapped clean off<br \/>\nfrom the root of some<br \/>\nmountain vegetable.<br \/>\nMost of the knife is edible, in fact.<br \/>\nEven the blade.<br \/>\nBut only if you cook it long and slow.<br \/>\nAnd who would eat such a thing?<br \/>\nWho would eat the knife cooked tender?<br \/>\nSomeone with a pen, no doubt.<br \/>\nOr a typewriter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The pencil they gave me was covered with paint.
